What is Ranked Choice Voting? In ranked choice voting elections, the candidate who reflects the views of the widest number of voters wins. Even in crowded fields, similar candidates can compete without splitting votes. Whether Republican, Democrat, independent or third-party, voters never have to worry about the “spoiler effect.”

Ranked Choice Voting Maryland (RCV Maryland) is a non-partisan, grassroots coalition seeking to build a more effective, representative democracy through ranked choice voting elections. They are seeking to modernize Maryland’s voting systems at the city, county, and state level. RCV Maryland formed to galvanize public and political support for better voting methods after a history of crowded primaries, a lack of fair representation, and low plurality winners.

Join us as Heather fills us in on where ranked choice voting stands in our county and state, answers questions, and lets us know what we can do to promote RCV.

Heather Reichardt, MRICS, CMI, is the current AAUW Maryland President (American Association of University Women). Heather is a volunteer with Ranked Choice Voting Maryland this year.
