Action VP of MCNOW Lara Wibeto and MCNOW member Mary Bailey along with members of Montgomery County National Organization for Women are protesting the reduction in sentence from thirty years to 14 with a chance for parole beginning in 2013. We think this light sentence being given to child rapist Jason Lay by Judge Eric Johnson sends a message that the rapist has more rights than the rape victim as well as minimizes the horrible crime committed against an innocent four year old girl. We have always taken a stance against violence against girls and women. Judge Johnson’s sentence reduction sends the message that rape is OK. We at now believe that rape of any kind should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. We believe that Mr. Lay is a danger to the children in our county and should serve time befitting of a child rapist.
Mary Bailey is also the creator of the website and monthly newsletter, The Watchful Eye, which fights against the sexualization of girls in Montgomery County and on the national level.
Lara Wibeto is a married mother of two girls, ages 5 and 7 who advocates for child safety issues through a variety of county and non-profit organizations.
